Bleeding Heart (Dicentra) 4+ Eye Tuber
Bleeding heart plants are delicate blooming plants for shade gardens. The heart shaped blooms are very unique, but unfortunately short lived. The foliage is attractive in the early spring but can get a little tired later in the season and may even go dormant. In sum, in the Spring, it is great as a showy spring specimen plant.
The non-hybrid bareroot dicentra spectabilis is TRULY amazing. We started carrying them in 2025 and what we did not sell in tubers sold in droves when potted up because 4+ eye bleeding hearts send up some seriously SHOWY blooms. And, customers love, luv, lerve blooming plants.
In addition to the non-hybridized version shown in the picture above, we also carry hybrids in 6" pots such as Alba, Gold Heart, King of Hearts, Luxuriant, Pink Diamonds, Ruby Gold, Valentines and possibly more. This plant loves well-draining soil and hates clay soil that holds moisture. Don’t overwater it. So, ignore the tag that says keep evenly moist and water only when dry. We sell about 100 +/- each year in 6″ pots. We grow these plants in phases, so that they are available from mid-February through late April. This plant is an herbaceous shade-loving perennial. Plant in morning sun to full shade for best results. Less than 4 hours of direct sun is best.
